about jennilyn
I practice yoga, because when it seems there are no possibilities, it reveals they are abundant and endless.
Jennilyn has been a student of yoga for over 10 years. In sharing the practice through teaching, her style draws from the heated flow of Astanga and the attention to alignment and healing principles of Iyengar yoga. Growing up as a dancer and acrobat, in Bayville NJ, she came to yoga as a means of stretching and strengthening core muscles, and continued her studies when college brought her to NYC in 2000. Jennilyn teaches with the full body in mind and believes that the connection of breath and movement is an incredible means of finding clarity and transformation inside and out.
In her own words:
In yoga, I practice to find a sense of clarity and overall well-being, on the mat, and in life. In the classroom it is my intention to simply open the door for students to find freedom and discover the teacher within. I teach in a style that speaks true to me, combining a free-flowing vinyasa in the spirit of Ashtanga, with attention to alignment as in the Iyengar tradition. Alignment and the physical body are core to my teaching, but as the foundation they provide the base for play and exploration. We work so hard already! My experience ranges from restorative to vigorous, beginners to advanced, though I encourage the idea of approaching everything with the openness of a beginner’s mind. Growing up a dancer and having minor scoliosis has made me particularly aware and sensitive to my own body’s alignment, which has inspired my awareness in teaching others. I intend to further train in anatomy and yoga as therapy, as well as explore yoga for social action, committing time to working with at-risk youth and people with physical conditions.
